I have been so busy lately, exams and shifting, cleaning home.. throwing things away.. closing accounts.. returning stuff
and all this with 3 days of snow storm
and alone
it`s so below freezing point here in boston
i have been stressed , tired and angry
but i am glad that i am going home in 6 days now
there is still some stuff left that i need to take care of before going

that fatal day
It was December 5th 2008, Friday
I was working on my final exam and a term paper and suddenly i decided to go out for some fresh air. I went to Newburry street. Scanned through the shops there. I thought i was taking so long but then said to myself "i deserve this break, i ave been working for so long sitting inside". When i reached home.. it was a devastating scene. My apartment had been broken into. My roommates were crying, Police ahd been called and were taking the evidence
Suddenly they started asking what was missing... and i looked at my bed.. Oh my God.. my laptop -it had my almost completed exam and term paper and all my memories from US- GONE
i went in a shock , couldn`t put myself to realize what had happened. There was no way that i could rewrite the whole exam....
I wanted to cry but no tears.............
Aparantly my roommate left the window open and went away, the theif came in the window broke the lock on my laptop, got hold of my jewelry box and little cash in my wallet. My roomate came back in 20 minutes when he was stil inside, so he fled
my most important comodity was stolen... my laptop my friend.... i loved my laptop ...over the last year and a half i had grown used to it. Everyday i switched on my laptop before doing anything else and now it was gone gone forever.. just because of the negligence of

random conversation at gym`s sauna
This is a conversation i heard in the sauna bath of my gym
girl1: i don`t know what to do about X
girls2: why?
gilr1: i love him and he is gay
girl2: are you sure you love him romantically and not as your best friend?
because i love Y to death but as a friend
girl1: yeh maybe , i am not sure
he usually comes over and sleep with me, we don`t get physical but that is the only time we can be together. So he comes over and sleep with me

BOSTON!!!
So,
Today I am going to write about Boston, the city that has become my second home. It is a place in which i have grown (only in 1 and a half years), a place where i learned so many valuable lessons of life and a place that will always stay in my heart.....
It is strange that when i was thinking about doing a Masters from the States about 2.5 years back, i didn`t even know that there was a city named Boston :S. And here i am after less than 3 years in Boston and am ready to return, leave boston :(.
I have made so many friends here, laughed and cried,felt powerful and helpless............
I was caught up in a snow storm last December. I was standing in the winter cold for three hours waiting for a bus, just to find out the bus wasn`t coming .....
I have taken the famous "freedom trail" on thanksgiving ....
I have stood infront of MIT and Harvard... i always feel the goosebumps when the voice in 1 number bus announces the MIT station (77 Massachusetts avenue, MIT)
I have taken cruises on Charles river ......... have seen it frozen

I have discovered the best ice cream ever (ben and jerry`s strawberry cheese cake)

Power trip!!!!
So i went to Philadelphia over the weekend.. well technically it was friday-monday
I was to meet two of my friends (i met in Miami August 2007 and have been friends ever since).
The first day was in Philly, making Chicken Karahi and Chai at B`s place. B is into movies like me so he decides to show me and M a movie. We went to his college at night just to find the auditorium full of Chinese students watching an animated movie so we move to another auditorium which was also filled with ... yeh Chinese students... so we tried our luck at the library showing them our university ids and they let us in yeh... we goofed around in the library .. took some silly photos, found some books in Urdu (well it was an american university). Then i came up with a brilliant idea to book a group study room and watch the movie there... so we watched the movie in one of those.. made plans for next morning`s NYC visit, booked bus tickets
The next morning..our bad luck .. NYC was freezing cold .. -11 degree and chilly freezing winds
after every half hour of walking we had to go inside some building and defrost our selves. I finally got to see the empire state building, rockerfeller centre and then the new year`s ball at display in Macy`s. Had chai at a desi restaurant
At a shop M was looking for some Vitamin water and i saw this Power drink and i said "M---- power le lo" and the shop keeper was deprived or frustrated repeated after me "M---- power le lo" hehehe.. only in NYC will this happen so we went crazy laughing...
at luch time we bought chicken over rice from my cousin`s recommended cart on 53rd and 6th avenue and then realized that we can`t eat out side it was so freaking cold.. So another brilliant idea stroke me .. and we went inside the subway station and sat on the stairs there and ate :)
Next day was for Franklin Mills mall .. crazy crazy shopping... cheap watches i got there :)
then at night dinner at a Pakistani restaurant (haleem,kababs,biryani,nihari,korma and nans) ...
then B`s movie watching worm was bothering him so we watched another movie
next day was back to reality...
the trip was one hell of an experience.. especially the smell in the china town bus

the friends
I have been very lucky in meeting old friends......
I come across old friends at random times and places , friends who i have not seen or talked to in ages, friends who have become mothers,doctors,engineers,teachers and what not
I will narrate a few stories here
1. BM: So this guy was my class fellow in 9th and 10th grade and then i came to know that he is becoming a doctor , studying at KE lahore. Khair he found me on orkut through some old friends and then actually came to visit me at my office , he has become a doctor at that time :). Yeh alag baat hai that i made fun of him and called him a vetnerarian and asked how many he had killed :p
2. M &J: These two girls were with me till 11th and 12th grade and then i randomly met them at a market shopping :D. and now am in contact with them
3. F: This girl was my friend in garde 8th i guess and then left for karachi. I saw her at a wedding after so many years and guess what, she was herself getting married after two weeks so she invited me to her wedding and i went, we have been in contact since then. She has a very cute little baby girl now and lives in karachi
4.Z: Was my class fellow on and off during the school. Her dad got posted somewhere and we lost contact . I found her on F`s wedding :). She was married and had a child :)Now she is here in Boston with her family, we meet quite often
5. FH: Found me on orkut after almost 9 years , now we are talking every day. She is a doctor in karachi now
6. S: This guy was my class fellow in maybe 6th grade and found me this year on facebook. He is a pilot in PAF now.
7.M: Was my class fellow in almost all schooling. After that i lost contact with him. Found that he was working in the same company as me. Met him at one of the trainings we were having and met A through him who was a common school friend. a is now married. I met them a couple of times but then lost contact after coming here

my mom
As i mentioned that my mom is extremely funny. She can make jokes about serious situations and make everyone laugh.
My brother and I love watching cricket with her. She has an ultra sharp eye :D....
She is in full support of Pakistan team . The thing is she has started watching cricket only a few years ago just because my dad developed an extra likeness for cricket and would not do anything on a cricket day ...Ami point out silly things during the match and will defend her favorite player even if he does not perform well.
She makes random statements about almost everything which makes us laugh like anything
God i miss my mom
She would try speaking in English with me after i came here ... just for the fun of it, it`s so cute.
That day she said to me "i have a good news for you".... it brought a smile to my face.
not the news but ami`s sentence and the ways she delivered it

since mom told me that "tumharay aanay k aik do maheenay mein tumhara kaam tamam ho jaey ga". My mom is very funny , i have so many stories to tell about her... so shopping has started. Unlike the other two times i went back, i am not taking any chocolates. I hope i will have enough space for the shoppings i do.. i have a lot of stuff already and i am visiting philly and NYC in some days .... obviously one cannot come from philly without shopping. It has the biggest mall in Amreeka :) And NYC is ah well every one knows what NYC is and how much shopping is there so i am going to ahve a shoppingful life ahead ......

amna and Golden gate bridge
I went to San Francisco and obviously went on the golden gate bridge....
rented a bicycle... biked about 16 miles(both ways) on the bridge and the area before/after it
There is an area for bikers on the sides of the bridge which is wide enough to bike freely.
I took advantage of it by biking with my eyes close..... Well for sometime at least
Ahh
i can`t tell you how good a feeling it was
did i mention that i love riding the bicycle ?
i loved it even more on the bridge because of the view and the breeze....

Niagra!!!!
So much has been written about niagra falls.... i am sure it muist have been photographed more than a million times. My experience seeing the falls was similar to everyone else who has seen the falls and immediately fell in love with them. It was July 5h 2008 when i visited this wonder of the world. The trip was very tiring Boston-philly-DC-NY-Niagra in just about 3 days. But the sight of the falls made all the faigue go away .................the beauty of the falls was all worth the trip
It was a special July 4th weekend bus tour.... so had to see all these places before we actually see Niagra Falls . The fiery ride to the middle of the falls, the night illuminations , everything was awesome

It was a special July 4th weekend bus tour.... so had to see all these places before we actually see Niagra Falls . The fiery ride to the middle of the falls, the night illuminations , everything was awesome

DISNEY WORLD!!!
When I was coming to the US, I only had three things in mind to visit.
1. Disney World
2. New York City
3. Niagra Falls
It didn`t take me long to go to New york City since I live in Boston and New York is merely 4.5 hours away by bus :)
It was not before August 2008 that I could finally make a plan to visit Disney world, Florida
This is a story of my trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando ........
It was October 2nd 2008 that i visited Magic kingdom in Disney World . It was magical!!!
Cinderella`s Castle, the parade, all the theme rides ... everything was awesome
October 3rd I went to Animal kingdom. Would never forget the parade there
October 4th was for Sea World which was a 5 minutes walk from the hotel i stayed in...My cousin`s husband still wanted to drive.... That`s another story :)
I saw animals perform for the first time. The highlight was the huge whale "SHAMU"... which was so cute and performed so well.
On October 5th , i went to Kennedy Space center (NASA). I would say it was not that good. Even if you are into space and NASA stuff..
Anyway it was a cool trip , I enjoyed it to the max even the part of us missing our flight to Orlando and the ending up going back home booking flight for next morning, paying a penalty fee for missing the flight and then boarding the plane the next morning on time ...
It was my first time missing any flight.....my cousin on the other hand proudly declared that she could not ruin her record of missing flights :) and was not at all unhappy about missing this one.
The best part about the trip was the there were hardly any lines in any of the parks :) We streamed in all the rides and that`s why were able to do 4 parks in 4 days (the people who have been to Disney would agree with me that it was quite an achievement)

why a blog
So, the thing is that i came to know about blogs some time ago and started reading some of the blogs. I felt like writing one of my own. I used to write a lot some years ago...
Any way my introduction
I was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and have lived there for 24 years of my life. And after that I came to Boston for my Masters. And am inshallah finishing this December and going back.
I am hoping to share some of my random thoughts here...
